Week 8- Summary (final blog post)

Over all this project was interesting, and much different from anything I did in Highschool. Being a freshman was a big change and online submission was not very common. I was more confident in my idea the first blog post and lost hope throughout the semester. I realized that applying this to all the things I learned in class was hard. Although my business was technology based, the idea was a bit vague and once I dove into all the specific aspects of it, I found myself struggling to develop my idea.
The overall theme of my web page was simplicity, it was a site marketed for elder people who do not know how to surf the internet as capably as our generation. It was going to be an "all in one" site, that will limit the number of tabs someone will need to have open to do all the necessities on the internet. I would incorporate things like mail, taxes, pictures and other things that people need to use on the web. I think the idea was good, but was a bit to broad. I would need to limit the site to only a few functions, because simplicity was the goal. I hope that eventually through the ISchool that I have the skills to make this website possible.
After reading other peoples blogs, I learned different ways to incorporate the lessons we learned in class, into my site.
Below I attached the links and comments I posted on three students blogs.

I think this is a great idea Daniel, as a high school athlete I was on "be recruited.com" and thought the site was a bit weak to be honest. I like how you brought a social media aspect into your site. I think it will be good for coaches and scouts to check out a players complete bio rather than just highlight tape. It would also be good idea for the high-schools to participate in this site and post statistics to the site that would automatically go to the players bio. Over all great idea, wish i thought of it.

I like this idea a lot but the only thing I feel you will struggle with is getting a customer base. As great of an idea this is, and as much i would enjoy this site, sadly another social media site will be hard to sustain. I think you can market it a different way, almost as a web page for music, or art. I think that will be a great way to keep it away from the "social media" trend. Also I love your idea of music being played as you open ones page. I think you can go very far with this concept.

I think this is a very cool and creative idea. The only risk is that someone will not return a game to other people. A good idea is to have a time limit and then consequential fines to people who do not return games. As long as the people agree to your terms of use, and you can charge their credit card, you will be fine. So i believe the biggest issue you will have to deal with is safety on the site. But majority of my friends would love this site. I think you can also market this at local video game stores, because that would be your perfect market.

Week 8-Networks

Networks will be a big deal in my site because my users will need to be able to mange the site fast and efficient. I will track the time it takes to connect to the site in various locations to make sure that vast regions have the ability to go on to my site. I will use this info I collected to make my site more efficient and of course easier for the user.

Operating systems is a big deal, and I have learned that throughout my time here at syracuse. Basically Mac  sucks! And my next computer will not be a mac. Although basic instructions may be simpler for Mac computers, the complicated programs and instructions I will need to run for my website will be much simpler on a PC or Linux. I am curious abou the Linux operating system because I have never had the chance to play around on it. But to be completely honest I will most likely get a PC as my next computer.

Week 6- Colors

The color definition of my web site will have a big affect on how people view the site, because lets be honest here image is everything. The color scheme will be as follows. The site will have a lot of white in it to keep the viewers focused on the information. Kind of like what Facebook does. The logo will be on the top left of the page, with blindingly yellow print. This will keep the focus on the information and the logo will also double as a button to return to the home page.
Some new ideas I have come up with for the site are a customizable home page, that will enable you to be able to put certain tabs where you want. So that the site is as easy as possible to navigate. I also have been filling out an application to the sand box, so have had a lot more opportunity to review the aspects of my site.

Week 4- Voice Recogniton

Since the main idea for my site is "simplicity" I think voice recognition could play a major roll in my site. I would have a voice recognition option on my site for elders who have issues with their eye sight. I would make it so the whole site can be run from someones voice. The user would be able to state what option of the site they want to go on and then continue to operate the site. Passwords will be saved to voice recognition to ensure that no one can hack this feature of the site.
This aspect of the site could cause a major problem because voice recognition is not perfect at this time. As demonstrated in class, one message could be interpreted as something completely different. So in  order to implement this into my site I need to make sure that it works perfectly. Because if I had a problem with any aspect of my site it would go across the over all meaning of my site.
